What is Kaizala I hear you ask!
Well it’s an app, made by Microsoft, who describe it as follows:
Microsoft Kaizala is a phone-number based, simple, and secure mobile chat app that enables you to connect and coordinate work across your network – your organization, vendors, partners, suppliers, and customers. Kaizala is available with Office 365 and works on iPhone and Android phones.
Microsoft Kaizala is a relatively new addition to the range of products and services that Microsoft offers. Kaizala is a little bit different. Being a purely mobile first offering, Kaizala is described as a chat app for work that allows people to collaborate and produce content on the go. It’s tailored towards first line workers, so those who are the first port of call when it comes to customers and clients.
Starting out as part of Microsoft’s “Garage” group of projects, it became so popular that Microsoft moved it into part of the Office 365 suite and have now begun implementing it in a number of regions.
As it’s a mobile communication styled app, Kaizala’s main similarities point to WhatsApp in many ways but, Kaizala is designed for small businesses and enterprises and although it has a very familiar layout and functionality compared to WhatsApp, there are some business specific uses for the app. The familiarity may mean users may feel comfortable in adapting to Kaizala for this reason alone.
Separate to WhatsApp however, Kaizala’s productivity centric options are as follows: the ability to post announcements, surveys/polls, share documents/photos, share location information, pay expenses and create meetings and jobs through the app too. Many of the options to collaborate can be either internal to your organisation or external. Kaizala takes advantage of a simple chat interface that users will find intuitive, being able to also create public or private group chats straight from a chat menu. Within the chat itself, users will have a conversational view visible, with interactive elements based on the content that’s been posted. They’ll also find the standard messaging options such as emoji and attachments all within the chat window too. And to make sure that users stay in the loop, there is also offline and 2G support too, however Wi-Fi-only devices are not supported.
One nice feature with Kaizala is its ability to plug into other Office 365 programs and APIs. You can use this to extend it’s out-of-the-box functionality. Also, for the more back-end focused, there are built-in analytics as well as an extensive management portal to allow for control over users.
Kaizala is supremely simple to setup. All you are required to do is download the app from your platform of choice. Microsoft Kaizala is supported on the following devices: Android phones/tablets running Android 4.3 or higher, iOS phones/tablets running iOS 9.0 or higher, Windows phones/tablets running Windows 10 version 10240.0 or higher. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you then sign up with your mobile number, and away you go!
One major concern with apps like these, especially in a business environment is security. Luckily, Kaizala is compliant to GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC1, and HIPAA standards, meaning you don’t need to fret when it comes to security, privacy and Kaizala.
