Our grandparents left their doors unlocked. They knew the people that posed the risks to their valuables. They typically knew the parents of the known risks and that was enough of a deterrent. Halcyon times maybe, but we can be sure that they will never return.
It is not unusual for business internet users to think that they have sufficient firewall protection from the router supplied free by their service provider but this is rarely the case. Unless you have a modern and regularly updated, managed Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance, you are certainly exposed.
Having provided managed UTM devices for about 5-years (and we have more than 50 managed devices with our clients now), we have seen first-hand how this landscape has changed. Every year we know less about our potential network attackers. One of the most important components of a UTM device is now the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) – something not found in everything called a ‘firewall’.
BCS have always been committed to staff training, allowing both financial and engineer time resources. Following the successful training of Dan to the Cyberoam Certified Network & Security Professional (CCNSP) standard at the Cyberoam training centre and realising we needed to train some more of our team, we decided to bring the trainer to us for the next two day session. This has resulted in Dean, Andrew, Tom and Harry joining Dan CCNSP’s. Congratulations to all our Cyberoam qualified engineers.
