Hannah – Catching Lives

25 Year Anniversary

Our Marketing Assistant Hannah has joined the kitchen volunteers at Catching Lives, a homelessness charity based in Canterbury. As part of our 25 acts of local kindness, she has told us about what she does for the charity.

Catching Lives is an independent charity aimed at supporting the rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerably housed in Canterbury and East Kent; those who have, for many reasons, fallen through the gaps in society and feel they have nowhere else to turn

Since returning from university, Hannah was taken aback when seeing the rise of homelessness in Canterbury over the last 3 years. She decided to start giving back to the community who has made her the person she is today, and is a regular kitchen volunteer every other Sunday.

Volunteers arrive at the shelter at 8:30 in the morning to prepare the food for the day. Breakfast runs until 10am and Lunch begins at 11:45. The shelter receives a high volume of food donations, especially over the festive period – meaning there is always a range to dishes the volunteers can cook! Hannah, having only been there for a few weeks, is already popular for her sticky toffee pudding and honey-glazed parsnips!

I really enjoy my time at Catching Lives. It gives me a time every Sunday to step back and gain some perspective on the world around us. I love getting to know our clients and it’s my pleasure to be a part of their lives, even in a small way

Hannah is really glad that her time with Catching Lives is also included in our 25 acts of local kindness! You can do your part by donating to Catching Lives by clicking here.
