Kate – Girlguiding (Again!)

25 Year Anniversary

Our Finance Assistant Kate has continued her volunteering role as a Division Commissioner for Girlguiding in Ramsgate, and we are so glad as a business to be able to support her in her efforts. As part of our 25 acts of local kindness, Kate has given us some insight into what she does week-on-week.

Kate has been a Girlguiding volunteer for the Thanet South Division since 2008, and is now the Division Commissioner that oversees all 16 units in the area. Kate looks after the whole range of age groups including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, & Rangers – that’s ages spanning from 5 all the way into adulthood.

Girlguiding’s mission statement reads:

Through fun, friendship, challenge and adventure we empower girls to find their voice, inspiring them to discover the best in themselves and to make a positive difference in their community

With more than 240,000 girls nationwide that meet regularly every week, Girlguiding has been prevalent since 1909 in supporting the extracurricular activities of young girls. Girl guides all have the opportunity to earn badges, which cover an array of skills including Cooking, Languages, Navigation & Fitness. Over the lockdown period this year, Kate kept the guiding spirit alive with virtual sleepovers, campfires in the garden & papercrafts.

We are really glad here at BCS to be able to support Kate in her position with the Girlguides – you can find out more about Kate’s volunteering history here and if you’d like to be involved in Girl guiding yourself, click the banner below to learn more about the Thanet South Division.
