If you use Office 365 like we do at Business Computer Solutions, you may have noticed your Lync looks different. This is because Lync is now ‘Skype for Business.’ Based on the popular Skype experience that more than 300 million people use each month, Skype for Business is now part of Office 365. Microsoft acquired Skype in May 2011 for $8.5 billion.
Your contact window will have a new, fun look which has some fantastic new features. What you love about Lync, your availability status, instant messaging, voice & video calls, and online meetings are still part of the Office experience. However with Skype for Business, you can now search for and connect with anyone in the Skype network, within or outside of your organisation. In addition to this, Microsoft have also added the Skype call monitor which keeps an active call visible in a small window when you move to another app.
The transition to Skype for Business is seamless. It will automatically update and the rollout is expected to be completed by the end of May 2015. However, if your business needs more time to make the transition, Microsoft have provided some advice.
